February 11, 2025 Council Meeting Summary
Jeff Stewart and Hillary Knapp were elected Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, for 2025.
The Deacons are contacting Kathy Mathis regarding what additional assistance may be needed
due to uncertain future of federal funding for Food Shelf and Senior Center programs. The
Council would like to provide additional help. The Food Shelf is open Sundays & Tuesdays at the
Methodist Church and is currently busy enough that customers are limited to 2 visits per
month.
With the Deacons planning to make the Service of Remembrance more inclusive in the
community, it was suggested to post it on the website.
Lenten Services–Our church is invited to participate in Ash Wednesday Service on March 5 th , a
service being collaborated by Rutland Inter-Faith group.
Communion Teams—It was determined it will be okay for just 3 members to serve communion.
Also suggested in months we worship in fellowship hall could even be reduced to 2 people,
given the physical setup.
Jeff received a reminder from Caitlin Corkins of Vermont Historic Preservation, that they need 2
more forms to complete a grant application for Steeple Repair Project. The estimated cost is
expected to increase by 15 percent, or a total of $79,000 to complete the work.
Kristen Varian & Sue Wetmore are planning a BCC Creatives meeting to consider an art show in
fall of 2025.
The Justice and Witness Ministries Committee of Vermont Conference of UCC is sponsoring a
series of social justice webinars to address the challenges of the times in which we’re living.
People may register by visiting vermontucc.org. The 3, hour-long webinars are listed along with
subject matter, date and time.
To be done soon is a review and update of the plaque honoring BCC members who served in
the military.
The next Council meeting is Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
